Tips to Get a More Organized Windows 8.1 Desktop
We do take the undue advantage of our PC desktop because it allows us to put our all files and programs on it. But have you ever realized the consequences of putting everything on your desktop and giving it a look of an overcrowded desktop. Accumulation of unnecessary files on the desktop can make you face two problems – one, you might look puzzled at the time of locating anything and two, it can make your computer work slow as you are occupying more of computer’s memory. So, if you are wondering why your Windows 8.1 is not delivering the optimum performance, then it’s the time for you to consider clearing off its desktop.
Here are the tips that you can apply on your Windows 8.1 to keep its desktop clean and clear:
Put the files and programs into one folder
The first step towards a clean desktop on your Windows 8.1 is moving everything into a single folder. You can create a new folder to put everything residing on your desktop, including files and shortcuts. Once the folder is created, you can name it as per your convenience, such as ‘desktop stuff’ or anything that suits to your taste. You dump all the files, shortcuts and programs sitting on your desktop into this newly created folder. If you need a quick access to any app, you can consider pinning it to the taskbar.
Hide the Taskbar
Second step towards the cleanliness of your Windows 8.1 desktop is hiding the taskbar. To do so, you can check out the steps below:
- Right-click on the Taskbar.
- Select ‘Properties’ from the option.
- Click the first tab named ‘Taskbar’ and check the box next to the option ‘Auto-hide the taskbar’.
- Now click on ‘Apply’ to configure the changes and then click OK.
Now, your Taskbar will appear only when you’ll drop the cursor to the bottom of the screen. Now your Windows 8.1 Taskbar is not going to show up until you’ll call it by dragging your mouse cursor to the bottom.
Hide the Recycle Bin
Now, you can see your Recycle Bin and some other system files on the desktop. You can even get these things off from your desktop in a very simple way. Here are the steps to consider:
- Right-click on your Windows 8.1 desktop
- Select ‘View’ from the options and then click ‘Show desktop icons’ to deselect the option.
Now, every icon appearing on your desktop must have gone invisible. Yes they would have. You can use this option to hide everything stored on your PC, including your personal files. Now, you have a clean Windows 8.1 desktop.
Throw away everything that you don’t need
There is no point in putting files or programs in an organized folder if you do not need them. It is better to throw out the clutter from your PC even from the folders, to ensure they don’t let your computer slow down.
So, don’t let unnecessary stuff on the desktop of your Windows 8.1 become a hurdle for your PC to work faster. Instead, keep your desktop clean and organized by creating a folder and putting everything there.
