Steven Sinofsky Walks out Of Microsoft After Leading Windows 8 Launch Event
Two weeks earlier Steven Sinofsky led the Windows 8 launch event in Manhattan, New York on October 25 and now he is heard to leave Microsoft. According to the source, AllThingsD, Windows boss Steven Sinofsky has left Microsoft with immediate effect. Julie Larson-Green will take up the position as the new Windows unit president, confirmed by AllThingsD.
Steven Sinofsky was known as demanding and difficult as a team player. Sources claimed that his sudden exit resulted from the growing conflicts between him and other top executives of Microsoft. Microsoft has claimed that this sudden move was taken mutually by the company and Sinofsky. But, Sinofsky was not that kind of team player that Microsoft was not happy about despite his stupendous talent and contribution to Windows development.
What will happen after Sinofsky’s exit from Microsoft
Steven Sinofsky has led the development of Windows 8 operating system. He took over the post of president of the Windows division in July 2009 when Microsoft was readying for Windows 7 operating system. His abrupt departure from the Microsoft has cost the company with drop in company’s stock. Microsoft’s shares reportedly dropped by 3 percent to $27 by Tuesday as the Steven Sinofsky’s exit news flashed on the web.
Steven Sinofsky wanted to clear the speculation and rumor regarding his departure from Microsoft by maintaining that it was his decision completely. He stated in a mail that:
“Some might notice a bit of chatter speculating about this decision or timing. I can assure you that none could be true as this was a personal and private choice that in no way reflects any speculation or theories one might read—about me, opportunity, the company or its leadership.”
When asked why Steven Sinofsky’s exit from Microsoft is so sudden, he answered that –
“As I've always believed in making space for new leaders as quickly as possible, this announcement is effective immediately and I will assist however needed with the transition.”
Steven Sinofsky’s successor Julie Larson-Green who would now take the reign as the president of Windows unit was pushed from the Microsoft Office team to Windows team. He had also led the development of Windows 8 user interface and has been a trusted lieutenant ofÂ Sinofsky.
