AMD® targeting Windows® 8 Tablets
After dominating the graphics processor market for some time, AMD now wants to make a mark in the tablets market. AMD is supposedly arming itself with a couple of chips with Windows 8 in mind. One of the chips is named Honda which is set for a release this year. The other chip, which is called Temash, would be ready by 2013.
AMD doesn’t want to be a big player in the mobile phone market (low profit margin and too many players already, it seems) but is keen on the tablet market now with the impending release of Windows 8. AMD calls these two processors Accelerated Processor Units – APUs. If they strike gold with these two chips, it looks like they would be able to finally beat their rivals.
