Kinect for Windows® to get Windows® 8 support
Microsoft has announced that its Kinect for Windows will get Windows 8 support on the coming October 8. The support will be in the form of an update release to the Kinect for Windows runtime and software development kit (SDK).
In its September 4 ‘Kinect for Windows’ blog post, Microsoft has mentioned that the update might include the following features:
- Expanded sensor data access, which includes color camera settings and extended depth data
- More tools and samples, such as "a new sample that demonstrates a 'best in class' UI based on the Kinect for Windows Human Interface Guidelines"
- Support for Windows 8 desktop applications, such as Microsoft .NET 4.5, and Microsoft Visual Studio 2012.
The release of Kinect for Windows update in the first week of October will give enough time to the software giant to fix any issues that might occur before the official release of Windows 8 on October 26. Microsoft will be also launching Kinect for Windows in China on October 8. Later on, the Kinect for Windows will be made available in six more other countries: Chile, Colombia, the Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, and Poland.
