Microsoft announces a gaming studio for Windows 8 in London
As the Windows 8 and Microsoft Surface Tablet release date nears, Microsoft makes one more announcement for tablet lovers. Microsoft announced that it has plans to open a dedicated tablet gaming studio for Microsoft Surface tablet devices. They have also chosen Lee Schuneman, former Rare production director, to lead this London gaming studio unit.
When will Microsoft tablet gaming studio open?
Microsoft has confirmed that this London-based tablet gaming studio will open in November. In addition to developing games for Windows 8 tablets, the studio will also focus on the development of Microsoft’s Surface range tablet devices. However, Microsoft has not revealed whether this new gaming studio is related to Microsoft’s upcoming XBOX 720 version.
Microsoft has started recruiting for this unnamed London based studio. They are hiring for various positions, including product manager, incubation director, creative director, and studio release manager. Lee Schuneman, the head of the studio, has exclaimed his elation to be a part of the unit and also added that:
"Adding a fourth UK-based studio to the incredible roster of talent already in place not only increases our in-region studio presence, but will allow Microsoft Studios to explore the many creative and business opportunities that developing new games and entertainment experiences on Windows 8 tablet devices and platforms will afford." Lee Schuneman is the man behind Microsoft’s major game developments, such as the Xbox 360 Avatars, Kinect Sports titles, and Fable: The Journey. He also led XBOX's Sky TV app to complete.
