Microsoft® to launch Windows® Store in February 2012
February 2012 is going to be a special month for the software giant Microsoft. Want to know why? There are two reasons. First, the company will launch the beta version of the most awaited operating system – Windows 8. Second, it will launch Windows Store, from where you can download the Metro-style apps.
Till now there’s not much information as to what to expect from Microsoft Windows 8, but at least it’s clear that this operating system is designed both for tablets and desktops. Moreover, Microsoft has been talking about its Metro-styled user interface(UI). The new UI will have a tile-and-touch feel.
On the other hand, the Windows Store will play a very important part with Windows 8. Microsoft has announced that Windows Store will be the official place, where users can download the Metro-style apps. Users are in for a treat, because all the apps available during the beta phase will be absolutely free. During this phase, only selected apps will be featured on the Windows Store.
There has been no news as to which apps will be selected for Windows 8 beta version. But news has it that only selected developers would be invited to develop apps for the Windows Store. Microsoft would also hold a developer contest, where eight lucky winner apps will be selected and featured in the Windows 8 beta version.
According to the agreement by Microsoft, the company will allow the developers to build open source apps as long as it is approved by the Open Source Initiative (OSI).Windows Store would be available in all the languages that are supported by Windows.
