Microsoft Unveils Visual Studio Express 2012 for Developing Windows 8 appsMicrosoft Corporation has announced the launch of Visual Studio Express 2012, which is the free version of its toolkit for developing Windows 8 desktop apps. In addition to this, Microsoft also announced the release of an update for Visual Studio 2012 Update 1 by year end. The announcement was made during a launch event in Seattle on September 12 before an audience of hundreds of developers in-person and thousands more via Webcast.

Visual Studio 2012 is one of the tools that form the backbone for developing on Windows 8. However, the software giant claims it to be important for all of Microsoft’s platforms. ”We have a huge line-up of platform releases from Microsoft this year,” said S. Somasegar, corporate VP of Microsoft’s developer division, in a statement, ”from Windows 8 to Windows Phone 8 to Windows Server 2012 to Windows Azure to SQL Server to Office 365, all of them enabling you to create or modernize really compelling apps. And Visual Studio 2012 is at the center of this.”

According to Somasegar, the update 1 for Visual Studio 2012 will add a number of significant features for various app developer niches, which include improved support for SharePoint development, new DevOps capabilities, better manual testing capabilities, and a variety of productivity enhancements.
