Unreal Engine 3 available for Windows® 8 and Windows® RT
The availability of third and current generation of the Unreal Engine i.e. UE3 for Windows 8 and Windows RT platforms has been announced by Epic Games at the IFA 2012 event in Berlin, Germany. The full PC version of UE3 will be available for both the platforms. Windows RT is a version of Windows 8 that will run on ARM devices, such as tablets. Unreal Engine is the long-running and highly lauded game engine developed by Epic Games. The engine features a high degree of portability and is used by many game developers today.
The announcement will give a boost to game designers to expedite their Unreal Engine 3 projects for the upcoming Windows 8 platform. To commemorate the launch, Epic Games released the demo version of ‘Epic Citadel’ for tablets and smartphones running in a Windows 8 environment.
“By porting the full engine as opposed to a modified mobile version, NVIDIA and Epic have made it easy for UE3 developers around the world to bring their best content to Windows RT, Windows 8 and NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 processor,” said Epic Games vice president Mark Rein on NVIDIA’s blog.
