A new blog post by Microsoft suggests that Windows 8 on ARM will support desktop apps. If this turns out to be true, the rumor last year that Microsoft may jettison the desktop from Windows 8 on ARM will be laid to rest.
Had Microsoft not supported desktop apps, all Windows 8 on ARM apps would have had to be Metro-style applications. Microsoft preferred to remain coy on this issue for quite some time. Even at the time of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the company refrained from spilling the beans.
However, the most recent blog posted by Microsoft talks of "desktop and Metro style apps" on Windows 8, that suggests that the desktop in all probability will remain on Windows 8.
Some developers and PC users were very eager to see that Microsoft removed the desktop from Windows 8 on ARM devices. There were some that resisted this move. Whatever be your stance, it seems the desktop is here to stay.
