You can boot directly to the desktop version of Windows® 8
If you miss the classic Desktop feel in the Windows 8 Consumer Preview operating system here’s some good news for you. Folks at ZDNet have come up with an alternative that allows one to boot to the Desktop version of Windows 8 directly.
The process, however, isn’t for the regular users of the new operating system and is justifiable for just power users. It is a long and complex process which could scare you or create operating system issues if you don’t know what you’re doing. Let us explain the process in simple words.
First, you need to create a script file with the following code:
Once you copy the above code in a notepad, save it with a .scf extension. Then you need to go to the Task Scheduler Library and create a new task. Go to the trigger for the task, and select the option ’at log on’ for the task to begin. Now at the action tab on the task, you need to select the option ’Start a Program’ and select a file to be opened. Now here, you need to select the script file which you initially created. You can now close the task scheduler. And log off. Your PC will be booted in the Desktop version once you log in!
