Windows 8 hidden features revealed here!
Who else would have waited for Windows 8 to release more than you? A strong and steady Windows fan that you have been for so long, you surely couldn’t wait to lay your hands on the latest operating system from the house of Microsoft. Now that you have purchased it and explored its features, you will definitely agree to the fact that the wait was worth it. Is there scope for more features remaining to be explored? Yes, there are. For your perusal, here is a list of the top features that will simply amaze you, only if you could trace them. You guessed it right; these are hidden features and will require you to actually get on to them to discover them. Are you ready to know them yet?
Start Menu: You will simply freak out the moment we told you there are better ways to access the Start menu in Windows 8 than having to use the tiles and the animations. Yes there is a simpler and hidden way to do it. Bring your cursor to the bottom-left end of the screen and right-click on it to view a menu that gives you one-click access to the most frequently visited folders in your Windows 8. Programs and Features, Command Prompt, Control Panel, Search and a whole host of others wait to be clicked.
Reinstall Windows: If you have ever tried to reinstall Windows, any version, you will agree that it is a painstaking effort with numerous checks, cross checks, backups and password furnishings to do. Windows 8 gives you a cut-to-size few-clicks process to do it. To reinstall Windows 8,
- Go to the ‘Settings Charm’ and access the ‘Change PC Settings’ link
- The ‘General’ tab will give you two options – ‘Refresh your PC’ and ‘Remove Everything’
- The first one will let you restore the default factory settings and keep your personal files as is. To fix issues in the software/ hardware configuration, operating system settings, etc. you can use this choice. Opting for the second choice will completely clear out all files, folders, and hard drive and let you do a full system reinstall. If there are any major issues that you want to fix by performing the reinstallation exercise, you will have to opt for the second. However, before you do it, remember to backup your files and important data so as to prevent loss.
Multiple Monitor support: If your work requires you to use multiple monitors, you will find the Windows taskbar very handy. It extends across both the screens and at the same time lets you customize the apps as you may like. Pressing Win + PgDn will let you move an app to the right side of the monitor and to move it to the left you can press Win + PgUp.
Secret keys to access Windows 8 in Safe Mode: If you have already learnt how to start your Windows-based PC (earlier versions) in Safe Mode, you will have to unlearn it, as pressing the F8 key at the time of Boot will no longer help you. If you need to start your Windows 8 in Safe Mode, you will have to simultaneously press Shift + F8 keys to be able to do it. Remember, the hotkeys this time are Shift + F8. This is a new feature that you can explore.
Shutdown menu: This isn’t a hidden feature as you may have attempted to do it in earlier Windows PC versions. However, this feature works fine here too and thus the reason why it is on this list. While you are viewing the desktop, press the ALT + F4 buttons to open the Shut Down menu for you. If you want to power it off, press the Enter key or else pick your preference from the dropdown menu. Simple, isn’t it?
